FBI Hunts Fugitive Carlos Andres Rendon-Bermudez After GPS Monitor Cut Off
FBI is searching for Carlos Andres Rendon-Bermudez, a Colombian national wanted for violating the conditions of his pretrial release in a federal criminal case involving an unlicensed dental operation that spanned Puerto Rico and several U.S. states.
Rendon-Bermudez is currently listed by the FBI among its wanted white-collar crime fugitives. The FBI considers him an escape risk and says he was last seen on July 17, 2026, at the border between Costa Rica and Nicaragua.
The federal case began with charges filed in the District of Puerto Rico. Rendon-Bermudez, of Columbus, Ohio, and Jandiel Santos Rodriguez, of San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico, were charged with conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, mail fraud, wire fraud, and misbranding of devices in connection with a scheme to provide dental services without proper licensing. Rendon-Bermudez was additionally charged with making false statements.
According to the federal indictment, Rendon-Bermudez represented himself to patients as a licensed dentist despite not holding a valid license to practice dentistry. Federal authorities say he performed dental procedures on patients in Ohio, Texas, New York, Florida, and Puerto Rico.
The procedures described by federal prosecutors included applying braces, whitening and cleaning teeth, applying veneers, and treating cavities. Authorities also say Rendon-Bermudez ground patients' teeth using an electric grinding tool, administered anesthesia, and provided patients with prescription antibiotics following dental procedures.
The FBI states that the dental procedures caused harm to patients.
Federal authorities say Santos Rodriguez served as Rendon-Bermudez's representative in Puerto Rico, coordinated dental appointments, advertised dental services through social media, and told patients that Rendon-Bermudez was a licensed dentist.
Arrested, Released and Now a Fugitive
Rendon-Bermudez was arrested on June 22, 2026.
Following his arrest, a federal court ordered him to home incarceration in Ohio and required him to wear a GPS ankle monitor while the criminal case proceeded.
That monitor was later cut off.
Rendon-Bermudez subsequently became a fugitive, and on July 10, 2026, a federal arrest warrant was issued by the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio in Columbus because of his reported violation of the conditions of his pretrial release.
The FBI now lists Rendon-Bermudez as wanted for violation of pretrial release in connection with the underlying charges of conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, mail fraud, wire fraud, misbranding of devices, and false statements.
Fugitive Last Seen Near Costa Rica and Nicaragua
The search for Rendon-Bermudez has extended beyond the United States.
According to the FBI's current wanted notice, Rendon-Bermudez was last seen on July 17, 2026, at the border between Costa Rica and Nicaragua.
The FBI identifies Rendon-Bermudez as a Colombian national who holds a United States Green Card.
The bureau lists two dates of birth associated with him: May 17, 1994, and June 20, 1995. He is described as approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing approximately 170 pounds, with black hair and green eyes.
Authorities have also identified several distinctive tattoos that could assist in recognizing him. According to the FBI, Rendon-Bermudez has a tattoo of a cat's head on his upper left chest, a wolf's head with blue eyes on his left shoulder, and leaf and maze tattoos on his left forearm.
The FBI also lists "Manuel Perez" as an alias associated with Rendon-Bermudez.
A Case Spanning Five States and Territories
The criminal case against Rendon-Bermudez extends across a significant geographic area.
Federal authorities have connected the dental operation to patients in Ohio, Texas, New York, Florida, and Puerto Rico. The prosecution is being handled by the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Puerto Rico, while the warrant stemming from Rendon-Bermudez's violation of pretrial release was issued in the Southern District of Ohio.
The case was also included in the Department of Justice's 2026 National Health Care Fraud Takedown, a nationwide federal law-enforcement operation targeting health care fraud and related criminal activity.
The combination of an interstate dental operation, federal fraud charges, an alleged licensing scheme, and Rendon-Bermudez's disappearance after being placed under GPS monitoring has now turned the case into an international fugitive search.

Carlos Andres Rendon-Bermudez remains wanted by the FBI.
The FBI warns that Rendon-Bermudez should be considered an escape risk. Members of the public who recognize him or have information concerning his current location should not attempt to apprehend him themselves.
